About The Trek

Also popularly known as the “Rupshu Valley trek”; this is one of the classic trek in Ladakh which starts from the lower region of Hemis and Sham valley and ends up in the nomadic region and last frontier of Indian border. On passes through the famous Kangyatse peak 6400 mts and one may add to climb the peak as well. 5300 mtr is the highest altitude reached at the Morang la pass just before the trek finishes. On needs to have a perfect mountain guide for this trek as it has the chances of Landing up in China or sensitive areas that doesn’t allows the civilians to traverses through unless and until special permits from the ministry of Home Affairs.

Day By Day Itinerary

Day 01: Meeting and assistance on arrival at International Airport. Transfer to Hotel in New Delhi.

Day 02: Transfer to Domestic Airport to connect flight to Leh. Meeting and assistance on arrival at Leh Airport and transfer to Hotel. Rest of the day free for acclimatization.

Day 03: Acclimatization / introductory tour of Shey, Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Overnight hotel at Leh.

Day 04: Hemis-Shang Sumdo. After breakfast visit Hemis Monastery, the richest Gompa of Ladakh. From there we start trek to Shang Sumdo. Over night in tents.

Day 05: Shang Sumdo-Kongmaru-La Base. After breakfast start trek to Kongmaru- La Base. Take a path along the slope through the red rock, then back down to the reiver. From Chuskurmo the trek leads in to gorges to base of ongmaru- La pass. Trek times 06 Hrs. Over night in tents.

Day 06: Kongmaru-La Base-Langthang Chu. From camp steep ascend to the Kongmaru-La Pass (5150 Mts.) From the pass beautiful view of the northern face of Kangysatse (6400 Mts.) East descends to the summer pasture of Nimalang. From here pass the ridge behind the campsite, go down into small valley then pass another ridge and go along the rock to the Konka Wangpo continue to Langthang Chu. Overnight in camps. Trek times 07 Hrs.

Day 07: Langthang Chu-Sara. Go up through the valley from camp, cross a large stream and a moraintic wall, carry on until the valley as the top of Zalung Karpo-La (5100 Mts.) Overnight in camp. Trek times 06 Hrs.

Day 08: Sara-Dat. A little way beyond the last house goes into a beautiful woody gorge cross the Sara river go up to the Dat river. These two rivers flow into Zanskar River furthers on leave valley go in Sara transverse valley. The valley becomes very broad. Several Manis and Chorten on the way. Trek times 06 Hrs.

Day 09: Dat-Lungmoche. From Dat go towards the valley Rongo you follow the trek up to Yar-la (4960 Mts.) Fantastic view from the pass of Rupshu. Easy descend to the summer village of Lungmoche. Overnight in the camp. Trek times 05 Hrs.

Day 10: Lungmoche-Lun. From here go down along the riverbank, follow this valley. The small village of Sangtha and continue to Zabuk, nomads live in this area. Overnight in camp. Trek times 06 Hrs.

Day 11: Lun-Tak. From Lun along the left bank for half an hour, then take a good path, which leaves the river up to the left. You will come across a beautiful plateau and pass the entire valley and cross Morang-La (5300 Mts.) the long descend towards Tak. Overnight in camps. Trek times 06 Hrs.

Day 12: From Tak you will be transfer to Leh. Overnight in the hotel in Leh.

Day 13: Day at leisure in Leh. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 14: Transfer to Airport, to connect flight to Delhi. Meeting and assistance on arrival at Delhi Airport and transfer to Hotel in Delhi. Overnight hotel in Delhi.

Day 15: Delhi Home: Transfer to International airport to fly home.

About The Trek

Another “off the beaten trek” and less crowded this wonderful route not much frequented, this trek offers a very different landscape and you approach the high Tibetan plateau from DAT. Lush meadows, vast grazing grounds, natural springs and lakes make it the ideal haunt for nomadic shepherds (Changpas) who live here. Chances are that you may see wild asses (Skyangs) which roam these high plateaus. The trek, covering ground between (14’000 ft.) and (17’000 ft.) promises to be a fascinating experience. The trek ends at the high altitude lake of Tso Moriri at Korzok village. An overnight stay is must at this famous tourist place where lots of tourist come in jeeps to visit the lake and stay overnight in the camps. In the right season you may witness migratory birds from all over the world at this lake

Day By Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Delhi. Transfer to hotel

Day 02: Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Leh. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Afternoon rest for acclimatisation.

Day 03: Visit Alchi and Likir monasteries. Overnight camp at Uley Ethnic Resort.

Day 04: Morning walk to Ridzong, return for lunch and return to Leh visiting Phyang Monastery enroute. Overnight hotel at Leh.

Day 05: Sightseeing of Shey, Thiksey Monastery and Stok Palace Museum.

Day 06: Drive to Hemis. Visit Monastery and begin trek to Shang Sumdo. Overnight at cmap.

Day 07: Continue up the Stoney valley passing Chogdo, a small Settlement. Enter a deep gorge and continue walking in it after which you ascend beautiful grassy slopes to camp at the base of Kongmarula Pass.

Day 08: Nimaling (4700 mtr.) Begin a steep climb to the top of the pass at (5030 mtr.) which will take approx. 02 hrs. It is an easy descent to camp in the vast alpine meadows of Nimaling.

Day 09: Hankar from Nimaling, go across several small inclines to the pastures at Thachungtse. The valley now broadens and the path improves as you reach the settlement of Hankar.

Day 10: Base of Zalung Karpo. From camp, cross a stream and go up a broad valley to the base of Zalung Karpo

Day 11: Continue up the valley to the top of Zalung Karpo (5100 mtr.) from where you get good views of the eastern Karakorams. Descend to the valley floor for camp.

Day 12: Sorra (4200 mtr.) Continue along the valley to the summer village of Sorra for camp.

Day 13: Dat (4200 mtr.) After leaving the village, you enter a wonderful wooded gorge. Cross the Sorra Chuand go up the Dat Chu. Enter a narrow traversed valley that soon widens passing several Manes and Chortens. You now come into a broad valley and the village of Dat.

Day 14: Lungmoche (4550 mtr.) From Dat, go towards the village of Dango. Go into the third valley and begin a short and easy climb to the Yarlas Pass at (4950 mtr.) which offers fantastic views of the Rupshu Valley. An easy descent to camp in the summer village of Lungmoche.

Day 15: Sangtha. From camp follow the stream. You now go into a very large valley where the Zara Chu, which flows into the Zanskar River, flows Follow this open valley to the small village of Sangtha. A relatively easy walking day.

Day 16: Tsomoriri (14’938 ft.) Meet with vehicles and drive to Tsomoriri Lake via Tsokar, a brackish lake. Tsomoriri is breeding ground to bar headed geese, Brahmins ducks and other wild life species.

Day 17: Rest day to visit Korzok Village and its red hat seat Gompa. The north end of the lake is also good for bird watching.

Day 18: Drive to Leh via Mahe Bridge. Overnight hotel at Leh.

Day 19: Day at leisure in Leh. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 20: Transfer to Airport, to connect flight to Delhi. Meeting and assistance on arrival at Delhi Airport and transfer to Hotel in Delhi. Overnight hotel in Delhi.

Day 21: Delhi Home: Transfer to International airport to fly home.
