Day 03 Chennai – Tirupati
(140 kms drive, 3-4 hrs):
Early morning
leave for Tirupati by road. On arrival check in at hotel. Tirupati -
A temple and pilgrim town. In the afternoon proceed for Darshan of LORD
BALAJI. Overnight at Tirupati.
Day 04 Tirupati - Chennai (140 kms drive, 3-4 hrs):
After breakfast, leave for Chennai. Check in at hotel in Chennai. Relax
in the evening. Overnight at Chennai.
Day 05 Chennai -
Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram (130 Km, 05 hours):
Morning after
breakfast leave for Mahabalipuram en route visit Kanchipuram, once the
Golden city of India to visit Shiv Kanchi and Vishnu Kanchi temples. Later
continue towards Mahabalipuram. On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight at
Mahabalipuram.
Day 06 Mahabalipuram:
In the morning visit 6-8th century Pallave rock cut caves, Panch Ratha
temple, 7th century shore temple where both Vishnu & Shiva are enshrined
under one roof and soap stone workers in the market who designs and made
sculptures by chisel & hammer. Enjoy the sea beach in the afternoon.
Overnight at Mahabalipuram.
Day 07 Mahabalipuram - Chidambram - Gangekondcholapuram – Tanjore:
In the morning leave for Tanjore, the first halt is at Chidambrum golden
Natraja temple. Later drive to Gangekondcholapuram, an exciting Shiva temple
built from 1012-1044 AD by Kind Rajendra 1. The specialty of the temple is
the rays of sun falls on Nandi ( bull ) and it reflects and give light to
the Shiva Lingam since sun rise to sun set. The next halt is Kumbakonam
water tank, it is believed that after every 12 years 9 scared holy rivers
including holy Ganges meets here. During these days thousands of pilgrims
dip into the tank to wash their sins. The next halt is at 13th century Shiva
temple at Darasuram. In the evening reach Tanjore. On arrival, check in at
hotel. Overnight at Tanjore.
Day 08 Tanjore - Trichy (56 Km, 01.1/2 hours):
In the morning go for a sightseeing tour of Tanjore visiting
Brideshwarar Shiva Temple, built by King Raja Rajan from the year 985 - 1010
AD. As usual South Indian temples have big Gopurmas (towers) but this temple
is parameter shaped, 65 meters high from the ground. This is one of the
superb examples of temple architecture of the Chola dynasty. Later visit
Raja Rajan art gallery to see bronze statures of 9-16th century. Return back
to Hotel and after some rest drive to Trichy. On arrival, check in at hotel.
In the afternoon visit Srirangam Vishnu temple, which has 21 gopurmas
(towers), one of the gopurma is 73 meters highest in India. Later visit Rock
Fort 83 meters above the ground having 344 steps to reach on the top to see
Vinayaka temple. In the evening return back to the hotel. Overnight at
Trichy.
Day 09 Trichy - Madurai (131 Km, 03 hours)
In the morning leave for Madurai by road. On arrival, check in at Hotel.
In the afternoon visit the 16th century Thirumalai Nayak Palace. Later
visit the biggest Meenakshi temple, the temple has two main shrines one is
dedicated to goddess Parvati (Meenakshi) and other one to Sunereshwara
(Shiva). The domes of both the shrines are covered with heavy gold plates.
One can also see 1000 pillars hall built in 16th century by Nayakas by pure
granite stones. Overnight at Madurai.
Day 10: Madurai-Rameshwaram
by surface. (172kms, 3-4hrs)
Morning
after breakfast leave for Rameshwaram by road to reach by afternoon .Later
go for the sightseeing tour. Overnight stay Rameswaram.
Rameshwaram is one of the holy cities in India. Ramanathswamy temple is very famous for India’s longest temple corridor ever built. Rameswaram is known for one of India’s most venerated and most visited Shiva shrines, dedicated to Sri Ramanathswamy. It is so intimately associated with the life of Sri Rama, the hero of the epic Ramayana, that both Saivites and Vaishnavites consider every grain of Rameshwaram sand very sacred. There is a traditional belief among the Hindus that a pilgrimage to Kashi will be complete only after a visit to Rameshwaram, also hailed as “Benaras of the South”.
Day
11: Rameshwaram- Madurai
After a
leisurely breakfast leave for Madurai by road. On arrival, check in at
hotel. Evening free for activities of your own. Overnight at Madurai.
Day
12: Madurai- Cochin
After
breakfast leave for Cochin by road. Tour ends on arrival.
